I’m excited to announce a new partnership between Radius Athletics and FastBreak PlayBook.
Since founding Radius Athletics in 2015, I’ve spent thousands of hours working with basketball coaches. Through our RAMP program, I’ve counseled and mentored hundreds of coaches, from youth basketball through the professional level, across the United States and around the world. I’ve had conversations with coaches about their teams, their practices, their careers and the daily decisions that come with leading a basketball program.
My work with coaches has also been shaped by my own time on the bench. As a head basketball coach, I experienced the game from the other side of the conversation. My teams had multiple 20-win and 30-win seasons, and the lessons that came from those seasons continue to influence how I think about basketball. The X’s and O’s ideas I share often come from situations I faced with my own teams. The same is true of much of what I write about coaching philosophy. Teaching players, managing a team, preparing for opponents and building a program gave those ideas a place to live before they ever became content.
That experience has remained central to the work I’ve done through Radius Athletics.
For more than a decade, I’ve used social media, YouTube, articles and coaching resources to study the game with coaches and share ideas that can help them think more deeply about their own programs. The Radius Athletics audience has grown through those conversations, and the work has allowed me to learn from coaches working at every level of the game.
That is the work I’m bringing to FastBreak PlayBook.
Basketball Coaching Content for FastBreak PlayBook
FastBreak has created a coaches community built around the daily work of coaching basketball. The platform gives coaches tools for drawing plays, building digital playbooks, planning practices, scouting opponents and sharing information with players and staff. Its play library also gives coaches access to ideas from across the basketball coaching community.
That environment fits the kind of content I want to create.
Through this partnership, coaches can expect high-level content covering X’s and O’s, offensive and defensive tactics, game strategy, practice planning and coaching philosophy. I’ll be writing about specific actions and concepts, but the goal goes deeper than simply putting another play on a diagram. I want to examine why an action works, what a coach needs to teach for it to work, and how a concept can fit within the way a team wants to play.
The philosophical side of coaching will have the same foundation. Much of what I believe about teaching, accountability, player development and program building came from sitting in the same situations coaches face every season. Some lessons came from successful teams. Others came from difficult stretches that forced me to reconsider how I was teaching or leading.
FastBreak PlayBook gives those ideas a place where coaches can take them directly into their own work and share with every player and coach in the program. A coach can study a concept, draw it, organize it inside a playbook, add video clips and bring it into practice. That connection between coaching education and the actual work of coaching is important to me.
Connect With Radius Athletics
For over a decade, Radius Athletics has provided a place where coaches could find ideas, ask questions and continue learning. The FastBreak PlayBook Coaches Community will now become another place where that work continues, with high-level coaching content built from my experience as a coach, my work with thousands of coaches and my ongoing study of the game.
If you’ve followed Radius Athletics over the years, you’ll recognize the approach. If you’re discovering my work through FastBreak PlayBook, I’m looking forward to sharing the ideas and experiences that have shaped my approach to coaching.
